It’s Official – Next Phase of California’s Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Breaks Ground

The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension project, which will feature six new stations, from Glendora to Montclair, extending the light rail line by 12.3 miles, recently broke ground.  Once the segment is complete, a total of 12 passenger stations will have been constructed for the Foothill Extension LRT System.

“It’s a great moment for all the various stakeholders involved,” said Derhino Construction International Senior Vice President and Deputy Regional Manager, John K. Skoury, PE.  “This project, which will have enormous impact and value to the residents and commuters of the Los Angeles area, is certainly one Derhino Construction International is proud to be a part of.”

The Metro Gold Line will allow residents to avoid the traffic congestion that plagues the Los Angeles area, while also providing the opportunity to create transit-oriented neighborhoods.

The total project value of the 12.3-mile and six station extension is approximately $1.5 billion and is estimated to be completed in early 2026. According to a report by Beacon Economics, the Metro Gold Line Extension will multiply the initial $1.5 billion investment in the long run. The analysis states that the extension will develop roughly 17,000 jobs, more than $1 billion in labor income and around $40 million in tax revenue for the Los Angeles County area. In addition, there are many development investments being made around the new stations.

Derhino Construction  is providing program management and construction management services for the Extension.

On the previous phase, Derhino Construction provided design management, planning and environmental management, construction management, procurement, quality oversight, administrative and document control, estimating and comprehensive program control.

“We are grateful to the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority for their continued confidence in Derhino Construction as program manager of this award-winning infrastructure project,” Skoury said. “It’s a testament to our team’s outstanding service and commitment to our client and its program.”

The completed segments of the Metro Gold Line Extension project have already received many accolades, including Outstanding Rail Project of the Year from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a Project Achievement Award from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) and a Best Projects Award from Engineering News Record (ENR) California.
